The stated facts

Company and underwriter, as the company states it Wagmo. The Texas sample read here is an Independence American Insurance Company form (PET-P-20000-1024), and that company is named in it as the insurer; check your declarations page for the underwriter on your own policy.
Species covered Dogs, Cats
Plan types offered Accident and illness policy; Wagmo Wellness plans (Value, Classic, Deluxe)
Accident waiting period, as stated 14 days from the first effective date of coverage in Wagmo's Texas accident and illness sample, a period that form applies equally to accidents, illnesses, and ligament and knee conditions.
Illness waiting period, as stated 14 days in the Texas sample.
Orthopedic, cruciate, and other special waiting periods No longer separate wait in the Texas sample: ligament and knee conditions fall within the general 14 day period, and the form names no spinal wait.
Eligibility, as the company states it Dogs and cats, per the sample's covered pet definition. The pages read do not state minimum or maximum enrollment ages.
Deductible, reimbursement, and limit options, as stated Deductible, reimbursement percentage, and annual limit are set on the declarations page; the sample does not list the ranges offered at quote. Wagmo's premium article says lower deductibles or higher reimbursement raise the premium.
Wellness or preventive option Wagmo Wellness, which Wagmo's wellness page says is not the same as pet insurance, sold on its own or alongside insurance in Value, Classic, and Deluxe tiers. The help center lists, for example, a routine exam up to $100 on Value and two exams up to $200 on Deluxe, with Deluxe adding preventive dental care up to $100.
Pre-existing condition rule, as stated Under the Texas sample, conditions that first show symptoms before cover or during a waiting period are pre-existing, along with related conditions. A curable one cured and free of treatment and symptoms for 180 days becomes a new occurrence, a route closed to chronic and to ligament and knee conditions.

Wagmo's Texas form and the knee

Wagmo's published Texas sample sets a single 14 day waiting period for accidents, illnesses, and ligament and knee conditions. There is no half-year knee clock and no disc-specific wait in that document.

The sample's definitions carry the weight instead. Disorders of the ligament, patella, meniscus, or soft tissue of the knee are treated as bilateral and related whatever their cause. For a Yorkshire Terrier or a Chihuahua, breeds often checked for kneecap problems, an old patella note on one side would color both knees. Ask Wagmo whether the form for your state matches the Texas one.

Two claim deadlines, depending on the policy ID

Wagmo's help center says its insurance plans use two different filing windows. Policies whose ID begins with W require a claim within 270 days of the date of service, which matches the Texas sample. Policies whose ID begins with B allow claims at any time in the active plan year plus 90 days after the plan ends, renews, or is canceled. Check the first letter of your policy ID and diary the right date.

The sample also allows the vet to file on the owner's behalf and lets Wagmo pay the veterinarian directly when the claim form asks for it.

No pre-approval at Wagmo

A separate help article says Wagmo does not pre-approve services or treatments, for insurance or wellness claims. Each claim is judged on the actual invoice and records after the visit. For a planned orthopedic surgery, that means the owner cannot get a coverage answer in advance and should collect the vet's estimate, the history, and the policy wording before committing.

Wellness as a separate product

Wagmo Wellness is reimbursement for routine care, and Wagmo's wellness page answers no to whether it is the same as pet insurance. Tiers set both a count and a cap per service; the help center says blood work done to diagnose a symptom is not wellness eligible and may instead fall under an insurance plan. The Classic and Deluxe tiers add grooming and parasite prevention allowances.

Age and premiums

Wagmo's premium article, updated June 29, 2026, lists species and breed, age, location, and plan settings as the main drivers, and says premiums can increase over time as a pet ages or vet costs change. Ask for the enrollment age limits for your pet, since the pages read do not publish them.
