The stated facts
| Company and underwriter, as the company states it | Odie Pet Insurance, marketed and administered by Odie Pet Insurance Marketing, Inc., a licensed producer. Its footer names Trisura Insurance Company, Trisura Specialty Insurance Company, or Accredited Surety and Casualty Co. Inc. as underwriters; the help center says the Accredited policy is no longer sold to new customers. |
|---|---|
| Species covered | Dogs, Cats |
| Plan types offered | Illness and Injury Plan (accident and illness, Trisura); Accident Only Plan; Routine Care endorsement; Wellness Plan (not insurance) |
| Accident waiting period, as stated | 3 days from the policy effective date for accidental injuries, per Odie's insurance terms page, which notes the periods are also printed on the declarations page. |
| Illness waiting period, as stated | 14 days from the policy effective date, per the insurance terms page. |
| Orthopedic, cruciate, and other special waiting periods | 6 months from the policy effective date for cruciate ligament events, per the insurance terms page. The pages read do not mention a separate wait for IVDD or other orthopedic conditions. |
| Eligibility, as the company states it | Dogs and cats of all breeds from 7 weeks old with no upper age limit, per the help center entry for the current Trisura policies. Coverage is offered in all US states, though Odie notes not every product or option is available everywhere. |
| Deductible, reimbursement, and limit options, as stated | For the Trisura accident and illness policy, the help center lists 70 to 90 percent reimbursement, a $100 to $1,000 annual deductible, and a $10,000 to $40,000 annual limit, with supplemental benefits that may include office visits and exam fees. A separate Accident Only Plan has fixed terms: 90 percent, a $250 deductible, and a $10,000 annual limit. |
| Wellness or preventive option | Two separate things. The Wellness Plan, which Odie's help center says is not an insurance policy and must be bought separately, shows "Value up to $700/year" on its page: $150 each for routine exam and vaccines, testing and parasite prevention, dental care, and vitamins and supplements, plus $50 for Petivity devices and $50 for Purina products. Routine Care and Routine Care Plus are an insurance endorsement sold with a Trisura policy. |
| Pre-existing condition rule, as stated | Odie's terms page defines a pre-existing condition as one diagnosed before the policy began or during the waiting periods, including anything a vet advised on, treated, or that showed signs. A condition that starts during a waiting period, including a ligament injury, is treated as pre-existing. |
A six month cruciate clock and a long bilateral list
Odie's insurance terms page sets three waits: 3 days for accidental injuries, 14 days for illnesses, and 6 months for cruciate ligament events, all counted from the effective date. It defines a cruciate ligament event broadly, as any strain, sprain, rupture, tear, or degeneration of a cruciate ligament in the knee.
The help center's definitions go further. Its bilateral list names luxating patellas, cruciate ligament events, hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, glaucoma, entropion, ectropion, cataracts, cherry eye, and osteochondritis dissecans. Its chronic condition list also names cruciate ligament events and hip dysplasia. For a Labrador or a Shih Tzu, this means a knee or eye problem on one side can shape cover for the other, and a cruciate tear in month five is pre-existing for good.
Corrected wellness figures: up to $700 a year
An earlier version of this profile gave Odie's Wellness Plan as $600 plus $100. The live Wellness Plan page now reads "Value up to $700/year" across six categories: four at $150 each and two partner categories at $50 each. The help center states the Wellness Plan is not an insurance policy, does not cover accidents, illnesses, or emergencies, and must be bought separately from the accident and illness policy.
Odie also sells Routine Care, an endorsement that becomes part of a Trisura insurance policy. The two are easy to confuse on a quote screen, so check which one is listed.
Age, exam fees, and plan settings
The help center says the current Trisura product covers all cat and dog breeds from 7 weeks old with no upper age limit. Its settings run from 70 to 90 percent reimbursement, $100 to $1,000 deductible, and $10,000 to $40,000 annual limit. Office visits and exam fees appear as a supplemental benefit that may be included, so confirm it is on the policy rather than assuming it.
The Accident Only Plan is fixed at 90 percent, a $250 deductible, and a $10,000 limit, and it pays for injuries only, so illnesses of any kind fall outside it.
Claims through the Member Portal
Odie's help center says claims go through the Member Portal within 180 days of the treatment date. Odie may contact the vet for records, and appeals go to its claims email with an appeal form and vet documentation, typically answered within 14 business days and up to 30 days for complex cases. The pages read describe reimbursement to the policyholder and do not mention paying vets directly.
Former ManyPets customers
The help center has a section for ManyPets US customers who renewed with Odie. Anyone moving over should compare the waiting periods and bilateral list above with their old ManyPets terms, and ask Odie in writing to confirm that conditions already covered by ManyPets remain covered.
