The stated facts

Company and underwriter, as the company states it Rainwalk Pet Insurance. The insurer disclosure (form PET_DIS_MS_240701) says the policy is provided by Physicians Mutual Insurance Company.
Species covered Dogs, Cats
Plan types offered Accident and illness policy; Vaccine power up (standard on new policies outside NY and CA)
Accident waiting period, as stated The Mississippi disclosure applies its 14 day waiting period to illnesses and does not set a separate accident period. Rainwalk's FAQ describes a 14 day wait for new pets on most policies, after which accidents and illnesses are covered, so ask which reading your state form uses.
Illness waiting period, as stated 14 days for illnesses, per the disclosure, which refers to the policy for how the wait can be waived.
Orthopedic, cruciate, and other special waiting periods No separate orthopedic or knee wait is stated in the disclosure. Instead, orthopedic expenses are covered but limited to 50 percent of the annual limit in each policy period.
Eligibility, as the company states it Dogs and cats. Rainwalk's FAQ says a new policy requires dogs under 8 and cats under 10. Its disclosure says that if a dog is enrolled by age 7 or a cat by age 9 and the policy does not lapse, Rainwalk will not drop the pet or raise the rate because reimbursable claims were made.
Deductible, reimbursement, and limit options, as stated The disclosure's worked example uses a $20,000 annual limit, 90 percent payment, and a $250 deductible; the FAQ mentions deductibles of $100 to $250 and a 90 percent reimbursement option as common choices. Your own settings are on the policy.
Wellness or preventive option No wellness plan; the disclosure says routine care expenses are not covered. The one exception is a vaccination power up: the FAQ says it pays up to $100 per policy term for certain routine vaccines, is exempt from the deductible, and is standard on new policies in all states except New York and California.
Pre-existing condition rule, as stated Pre-existing conditions are not covered. The disclosure's cured condition clause treats a curable condition that has been free of treatment and symptoms for 180 days as a new occurrence if it returns, and the FAQ asks for vet documentation of the cure.

Half the annual limit for orthopedics

Rainwalk's disclosure does not add a long orthopedic waiting period. It caps the money instead: orthopedic expenses are covered but limited to 50 percent of the annual limit in each policy period. On the disclosure's own example limit of $20,000, that would leave $10,000 a year for orthopedic care.

For a dog that could need surgery on both knees, or a hip replacement, that cap is the number to test against. Two cruciate repairs in the same policy year would both draw on the orthopedic half. Ask Rainwalk which conditions it classes as orthopedic, and whether disc disease is one of them.

Enrollment ages and the claims-based promise

To start a new policy, the FAQ says dogs must be under 8 and cats under 10. Separately, the disclosure says a pet enrolled by 7 (dogs) or 9 (cats) whose policy never lapses will not be dropped, and will not see a rate rise, because of reimbursable claims. The disclosure still allows rates to change at each annual renewal as the pet gets older.

A Bulldog first enrolled at seven and a half can join, but falls outside the claims-based protection. The FAQ also says there is no lifetime maximum; Rainwalk pays up to the annual maximum for the pet's life while the policy stays active.

Exam fees and breed conditions

The FAQ says exam fees are always eligible when the exam results in a diagnosis of an accident or illness or is part of ongoing treatment of an eligible condition. The disclosure answers the breed question directly: breed-specific, genetic, and congenital conditions are covered like any others, as long as they are not pre-existing.

Vaccines, and nothing else routine

Routine care is excluded in the disclosure, but the coverage page and FAQ describe a vaccine power up that pays up to $100 per policy term for vaccines such as rabies, lepto, bordetella, FeLV, and FVRCP, without the deductible. It is standard on new or renewed policies outside New York and California.

How a Rainwalk claim gets paid

The disclosure answers no to whether Rainwalk pays the vet directly: it reimburses the owner, which lets you use any vet. The FAQ describes filing by photographing the itemized bill and uploading it in the customer portal or app, with payment by Venmo or ACH deposit, typically within 12 business days of the decision letter once payment details are on file. The FAQ also suggests sending bills even before the deductible is met, so they count toward it. No filing deadline appears on the pages read; ask for it.
